(Up to £10,000 / €11,500) Guardian Documentaries x arte.tv | Guardian Documentaries and arte.tv are inviting filmmakers to pitch short documentaries on the theme of democracy in Europe today. They're looking for deeply human stories and creative approaches that reveal how political shifts are lived, felt, resisted, defended, or exploited in everyday life — covering themes like the rise of authoritarian movements, threats to press freedom, and the erosion of civil rights. Projects at any stage of production or post-production will be considered, provided they can be completed by spring 2027. Filmmakers of all experience levels from across the world are welcome (must be 18+). One winning submission will receive up to £10,000 / €11,500 in funding, along with editorial support and distribution on Guardian Documentaries and arte.tv digital networks.
