($1,000) Mother Jones | Jacob is looking for more pitches for a column he edits in Mother Jones called Mother Tongue. The column tries to denaturalize a phrase that's been ubiquitous—and then give a strong take through that process. The pieces should question something many have assumed as normal and ask what that status quo reveals about our world. The pieces are 600-800 words, and pay is $1,000. Check out Jacob’s Twitter thread for more info and some example articles. Send pitches to [email protected]
($1,000) Speculative Literature Foundation | Older writers! SLF’s Older Writers Grant has been awarded annually to writers who are at least 50 years of age at the time of application to assist such writers who are just starting to work at a professional level. These funds may be used as each writer determines will best assist their work. Speculative literature spans the breadth of fantastic writing, encompassing literature ranging from hard science fiction to epic fantasy, including ghost stories, horror, folk and fairy tales, slipstream, magical realism, and more.
