($500 - $2,000) The Drift | The Drift is a magazine of culture and politics. They aim to introduce new work and new ideas by young writers who haven’t yet been absorbed into the media hivemind and don’t feel hemmed in by the boundaries of the existing discourse. Their issues, published three times a year, feature longform essays and cultural criticism, short fiction, poetry, interviews, dispatches, and extremely abbreviated reviews. More info here. They pay $2,000 for essays and $500 - $1,000 for short stories. Send pitches to [email protected]

($300+) Condé Nast Traveler | Condé Nast Traveler aims to inspire travel and inform readers about the world around us. They also publish stories that intersect with other fields: food, environment, art, history, architecture, design, tech, shopping, nightlife, and more. Any features should have a strong backbone of reporting and reveal something new—they’re not looking for diary-like travelogues or stream-of-consciousness stories that follow the course of a trip. Rates start at $300 for 500 to 600 words. Pitch guide here

($200 - $300+) 100 Days in Appalachia | 100 Days in Appalachia is looking for pitches from writers in the region ages 13-24 for a youth vertical. Pay starts at $200 for opinion, $300+ for reporting. No previous experience needed. Just send a few lines of the idea + a little about yourself! Rainesford is happy to help brainstorm ideas. Send pitches to [email protected]

(£100) GAMEBOOK ADVANCE | For the upcoming GAMEBOOK ADVANCE, Paul is looking for someone to write a paid retrospective on Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green! Pay is £100 for around 800-1,000 words. Pitch deadline is July 21. Send a short pitch to pmurphy1978 @outlook.com

($50 - $100) No Bells | No Bells is taking their blog about underground music into a physical magazine form! Email pitches to [email protected] + [email protected] with the subject 'NO BELLS PITCH: your idea’ (NOTE: unless it's super timely they’d recommend holding on it until they get the first magazine out)
