($800 - $1,000) The Dial | The Dial is accepting pitches for two issues coming out early next year: "Bodies" and "Ghosts." These themes will be interpreted broadly. They accept reporting, essays, fiction, and poetry. They are focused on stories from outside the United States. Rates are $800-$1,000 for reporting and criticism (2k-2.5k words). Pitch guide here. Send pitches to [email protected]

($800) New Lines Magazine | CALL FOR PITCHES on the U.S. election, expansively conceived: New Lines Magazine is looking for genuinely original stories, political/cultural reportage, personal essays, think pieces & historical takes on America from fresh, unexpected angles. Submission guidelines here. Also have a look at their existing America coverage to get a sense of the kinds of pieces they publish — but they’re very open to pitches that are “outside the box” (even their own “box”) if they're compelling, unique, and relevant. Rates are $800 per article, whatever the length — unless it's for their Spotlight series, which is typically for shorter pieces (they pay $600 for those). No deadline for pitches, but if it's specifically about the election, the sooner the better! DM Danny on Twitter or email [email protected]
