1️⃣ Calls to Pitch
(~$1 per word) The Margin | The Margin is actively seeking journalists to report on communities on the frontlines of environmental and climate injustice. They're especially looking for pitches on data centers, energy infrastructure, food systems, wildfire, and stories from underreported regions (the Midwest, the Deep South, Puerto Rico, Hawai'i). Black, Indigenous, people of color, and LGBTQIA+ journalists are especially encouraged to pitch. They offer rigorous editorial support, custom data visualizations, and collaborative editing, and prefer journalists who are proximate to or reflective of the communities they cover. Rates are about $1/word for long form investigative and data driven stories (up to 5,000 words). More details and submit your pitch via their pitch guidelines.
