Christmas features tend to be more fun and quirky stories, but – crucially – still have to involve some NEW science! Pitch deadline is June 14. ($400 - $1,200) The Sick Times | The Sick Times is accepting pitches for reported news stories and essays/commentary pieces with a larger freelance budget. They prioritize pitches from people with Long Covid and related diseases. Pitch guide here. They pay $1,200 for news features of 1,200-1,400 words and $400 for essays of 1,000-1,200 words. ($300 - $800) Gazetteer SF | Gazetteer San Francisco is looking for freelancers to contribute! Do you know the city and have a story that's burning to be told? Whether it's gonzo coverage, insight into a brewing policy fight, or a loving profile... they want your ideas. They’re particularly looking for food, nightlife, gossip, and opinion pieces.
