Let’s get to it! ⬇️ ⬇️

Gearing up for a research-intensive writing project? Whether you’re working on a deep-dive history, a memoir that involves copious research or an investigative article, this workshop will help you build out an investigative reporting tool kit that can be applied to any writing project.

A reporter, author and experienced writing coach whose work has appeared in publications ranging from The Washington Post to BuzzFeed, Amelia Possanza became an amateur archivist in the course of writing her acclaimed book Lesbian Love Story: A Memoir in Archives, named a Best Book of 2023 by NPR, Harper’s Bazaar and Publishers Weekly. She conducted extensive interviews, listened to hours of oral history tapes, read unpublished dissertations, visited public and private archives and retraced the steps of her research subjects across New York City. Now she’ll walk you through how to take a similarly exhaustive approach to your own research-heavy writing project.

This online seminar takes place on Wednesday, May 22 at 7pm ET.

($290+) Viator | Lauren is still seeking a Black writer (preferably based in Galveston, but definitely based in/from Texas) for a potential insider guide to the city, with a Black history/Juneteenth hook (you'd only be writing based on answers from a source). Rates start at $290. Get in touch ASAP if interested! Email [email protected]

($220+) Business Insider | Frank wants to commission first-person essays about divorce for Business Insider. What have you learned after your divorce? What are your views on dating after divorce? Any advice for other divorcees? Pay starts at $220. Send pitches to [email protected]

($200+) Business Insider | Stephanie is still looking for a few more travel experts for some summer-travel stories! She’s looking for pitches from people who have: been to dozens of all-inclusive resorts, traveled to every region in Italy, been to every Greek Island, traveled on 20+ cruises, etc. Rates start at $200. DM pitches to Stephanie on Twitter

(£125) Talking Travel Writing | Talking Travel Writing is looking for pitches! They want to commission: Op-eds about the little-discussed issues facing travel writers today; Expert insight into a particular aspect of travel writing (such as sustainability/responsible travel, or decolonization of travel writing); Tips or hacks-based articles that are relevant to travel writers (such as “how to get your pitches read quicker” or “three things every travel editor wants from freelancers”). Pitch guide here. They pay £125 for 500 words and, even better, they pay on submission, often within hours of receiving the invoice. Send pitches to [email protected]

($100 - $250) GayCities | Bil has moved over to GayCities as the editor! He’s looking for travel writers who are people of color, trans, or women. Let's bring more representation to the industry! The rates are between $100-$250 normally, but a bigger project would pay more. He gets offers for press trips to locations often so that would be included if appropriate. Send pitches to [email protected]
