($150 - $500) Nonprofit Quarterly | Nonprofit Quarterly is seeking essays, reported pieces, criticism, visual art, and hybrid forms for #WeTheCivic: America 250, a narrative resistance project contesting the choreographed celebration of the US's 250th anniversary. They want stories that center nonprofit workers, organizations, and movements that have advanced the promises of a multiracial democracy over the last 250 years — especially from communities and geographies rarely featured in national narratives (the rural South, borderlands, Indigenous nations, immigrant enclaves, faith communities, labor halls, and more). They accept reported essays and analysis (1,000-3,000 words), historical or academic essays (1,000-3,000 words), short-form criticism or commentary (800-1,200 words), personal essays (800-1,000 words), and original or existing visual/multimedia art. Payment is $500 for accepted written pieces and original visual or multimedia art; $150 for existing visual or multimedia art. Pitches are accepted on a rolling basis. More details and submit pitches through their call for pitches page.
